Bit of a bumper edition for the weekend this one, but some treasure in here I think.

    • Starting with comedian Frank Skinner’s take on being a Christian in the UK. Here’s what he says about Jesus, “Surely the central image of Christianity is someone who can shoot fireballs out of his fingertips allowing himself to be nailed to a wooden cross — submission as the ultimate show of strength — love as impenetrable armour.”
    • The sort of persecution in the UK that Frank mentions is of a mild sort but irritating nonetheless. Cranmer has the details on one Labour MPs stupidity. (HT: Peter Ould) *update clarification post here*
    • As Frank said, Christians may talk about death a lot. But we know how to do it much better than most (see this, this and this).
    • Frank also recognised that being a Christian is deeply uncool in the UK. But uncool people need Jesus too.
    • Which is a relief, for following Jesus is a matter for the ordinary life
    • However, for us charismatics, is listening God all about make-believe? Although I have to agree some of the practices seem a bit odd.
    • For the mother of young children, here’s (what seems like to me anyway) good advice on keeping the devotional life alive
    • Lastly, I’m fortunate enough to have visited the Maldives. If the climate changes and the oceans rise that won’t be possible. This is part of the Maldive plan to survive. Ingenious.

Phil WhittallI believe Jesus when he said 'life does not consist in the abundance of our possessions'. I believe he offers something better. This blog is mostly about that search.

I'm also a church pastor, a bookshop owner, a husband, a father, a keen runner, reader, and motorcyclist. These and a few other things make guest appearances from time to time.
