  I came back to 521 blog posts to read on Google Reader, having forgotten to change it to holiday settings (again). Unsurprisingly there was quite a lot on politics. Here is the pick of the bunch in one glorious political link-fest

  • The media is beginning to wonder what influence Christians will have on this election. So the BBC asks will Christians swing the election? Here are words which damn us from a politics lecturer at Oxford, “Across society as a whole my view is that it’s not a statistically relevant phenomenon at elections. There aren’t enough people like that, whose Christian views are going to be vital to how they choose their MP.” Shame on us.
  • This Guardian piece says for the Conservatives to have a chance Cameron must ‘do God’ and the Tories have the largest slice of the Christian vote.
  • Which seems to have worked for Adrian Warnock who has declared his hand and begins to explain why he’s voting conservative. Intriguingly the first reason is to do with social justice and the CSJ.
  • However, Jeremy who recently listened to David Cameron at the Centre for Social Justice, felt there was something missing, so emailed him with a book recommendation
  • Andy Flanagan, writing for The Times Online, however gives 10 reasons why Jesus might have been a labour voter
  • The Telegraph says Nick Clegg doesn’t believe in God but he thinks God would like his policies
  • However back in the Guardian Nick Spencer says there is no Christian vote but because Christians are more likely to vote than atheists or agnostics our vote matters.
  • Adrian Warnock interviews Wayne Grudem on his new book about Christians and politics
  • Jeremy gives a brief history of parliament to explain why he’s voting for reform
  • Dave is a classic floating voter
  • Matt Hosier gives you some questions to ask your prospective MP if you get the chance and then makes a prediction on the outcome
  • In the UK the leaders debates have shaped, dominated and potentially changed everything. Mark Meynell gives some insight on the first two and a video that sends up the first one brilliantly
  • Sean Green gives a good example of a leader helping a church think biblically about politics (part 2)
  • Nearly there…Jon explains in typically brutal fashion why he won’t be signing the Westminster Declaration

  It may be brutal, but I don’t think that’s typical of me. I’m only brutal on occasion.

  I prefer ‘to the point’

  Because I don’t think it’s uncompromising to point out inconsistencies in people’s arguments and then postulate a reason why they may be so inconsistent.

  Stem cells – hardly anyone does that – let’s attack it.
  IVF – pretty much everyone does that (or knows someone) – let’s not mention it.
  They have pretty much the same outcome (destruction of embryos).

  But it’s much easier to get people riled up and signing declarations protesting about things they aren’t doing, than confront them on the things they are doing, and risk antagonising your support base.

  Is all I’m saying.

  I think my comments are less to do with the points you make and more the way you make them. I’m commenting on style over substance in this case.
